AGM 2020 postponed

From Lynne Baxter, BSP City Council Recording Secretary:

As you have probably already surmised, the AGM has been postponed until such time as we can all get together as a group. I’m hoping that will be before October 17th, the revised date for Founder’s Day!

The current executive will remain in place until we can vote on a new slate.

I hope you are all safe and healthy and not too bored.

Founder’s Day postponed to Sat Oct 17/20

Sisters of Beta Sigma Phi,

Sadly, COVID-19 have forced us to postpone Founders Day to Saturday, October 17.

Lynne and I had to make a quick decision in order to not incur the loss of our deposit on the hall or, even worse, to have to pay for the food if we cancelled after it had been ordered. By postponing, it does not cost us anything.

We are sorry that not all of the players could be consulted but are excited to have a fall event and to know that everyone’s efforts towards the preparation for the event will not be wasted. Lynne and I will be working on it and Debbie has already completed much of her work.

Non of the cheque’s we received have been cashed and they will be returned to you.

PLEASE Save the date! We were limited in our choice of dates but this should give us time to settle into our fall chapter rhythm and not lose sisters to their fall trips south!

Stay well! See you on October 17!

Jacquie and Lynne

Message from International

From Laura Ross Wingfield today:

Today at noon, International will send our staff home and start home quarantine. We will have a skeleton staff that will come into the office once a week and handle essential items that can keep us working. We will only do business through email as we don’t have access to our phones at our homes.

Please alert your sisters that we will be working from our homes and using email only. You should use on line payment systems if at all possible and you can order and pay for gifts on line, they will process those and mail once per week so there will be some delay, so plan ahead. We are doing this with the utmost caution to make sure all of our staff are protected as much as possible and still do our work for you. I always do my email from home when I am home even in evenings and weekends so for me, it’s par for the course but others will probably have a touch of a learning curve.

Please take all cautions you can and be safe. We don’t want to lose anyone.

Memorial Ritual for Helen Acton

Alpha Upsilon Master will hold the BEQ Ritual for Helen Acton at Christ Church in Bell’s Corners at 10 am on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 to bid farewell to our beloved Sister. We would welcome our Sisters from other Chapters if they would like to join us.

Council meeting cancelled Feb 6/20

Since the weather report is not good and the driving may be problematic, the Executive anticipates not having a quorum and has decided to cancel tomorrow’s City Council meeting (Thu Feb 6/20). March’s meeting will be on Thursday March 5th at the usual time and place.

BSP Ottawa Council meeting tonight – access & accessibility

From Lynne Baxter, Recording Secretary: The Executive has been informed that the church parking lot is being repaved and will be closed for tonight’s meeting. This means that we can only enter and exit through the front door. Since the front door has steps this may present a problem for those with mobility issues. I have never used the front door but it seems to me that the Ontario Disability Act requires all public buildings to be wheelchair accessible. Unless the church gets around this by having the back door accessible.

Parking may only be on the street as well. Unless the school lot is available.
