Barb Rolston Rolston, Barbara (Barb) Joan Catherine September 29, 1939 to June 10, 2021

Barb passed away peacefully at her home in Nepean, Ontario on Thursday, June 10, 2021 in her 81st year. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Garry, her daughters Sharon Rolston, Amanda Clark (Peter), Shelagh Rolston (Bernhard) and one grandchild, Hollis. Barb was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1939, the eldest of three children, Gloria Lewsey (Ron), deceased, and Karon Speed (Brian).

She sang as a member of the Winnipeg Philharmonic Choir and chose teaching as her profession. The schools at which she taught were Miles Macdonell Collegiate in Winnipeg (1962-1967) and Ridgemont High School in Ottawa (1967-1969). Although she gave up her formal teaching career to raise her family, she taught cake decorating in Toronto (1970s) and also substitute-taught at Sir Winston Churchill in Nepean (1980s). Her teaching extended outside of the classroom as well and she incorporated it in many of her interests and activities.

She was co-owner of Fantasy Costumes and managed “A Book or Two” bookstore, both in Ottawa. Her interests were varied. She used her creative and artistic skills in cooking, cake decorating, cross-stitch among other things. She was also a science and nature enthusiast. She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi, serving on City Council for several years. Barb was known for her unfailing support of her family and friends. She liked to take in “strays” and turn them into family. Her leadership, friendship and love will be missed.

A Celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the charity of your choice.
